Why We Don't Take Insurance as a Naturopathic Medicine Practice

Hint: It’s in Your Best Interest

Long before my practice opened its doors, I knew in my bones my mission was to provide high quality naturopathic care.

To break outside of the conventional healthcare system and do things differently. Honestly, to do things better for our children.

In short, this explains why we don’t accept insurance. But because it’s a valid question that we get asked daily, I want to bust this topic open and break it down for you.

The Problems with Insurance-Based Medicine

Because it lowers costs, most people view it as “helpful” when medications or doctor visits are covered by insurance. But the truth is, insurance-based medicine does not prioritize the patient’s quality of care.

For starters, it focuses on “sick” care vs true “health”-care.

Medicines covered by insurance were made for quick, band-aid fixes, whereas our practice focuses on true healing from the inside out.

We use gentle, natural modalities for a short period of time to facilitate healing, so you or your child aren’t stuck depending on medication(s) or supplements for your entire life just to feel okay.

Unfortunately, the latter is what insurance companies are interested in. They are heavily invested in the conventional medicine model, which focuses on suppressing symptoms rather than prevention and true healing.

Second, insurance companies can control how we as doctors treat our patients.

Yes – they can overrule doctors' decisions in their practice!

When we create individualized treatment plans for our patients at Young Medicine, we are drawing from years of naturopathic medical school training and experience.

Visits are carefully crafted and no protocol is the same. A combination of therapies can be prescribed based on your family’s health history, lab results, constitution, and vitality.

Healing therapies in our practice include:

  • Nutrition and Lifestyle

  • Homeopathy and Biotherapeutic Drainage

  • Herbal Medicine

  • Targeted Supplements

Crafting treatment plans is a deeply personalized and carefully thought out process.

Not only are most of these therapies not covered by insurance companies, but even those that are, it is not in our patients’ best interest for them to have ultimate control over their treatment.

How Do YOU Benefit From This Model of Care?

#1. We take a deep dive into you or your child’s health.

Because you’re paying out of pocket for your healthcare, appointments aren’t limited to what your co-pay covers.

Our appointments can be anywhere from 30-90 minutes long, allowing us the time we need to dive deep into you or your child’s health history.

It allows us the time to gather the information we need to get to the root of dysfunction. It allows us the space to get to know each other so your child feels safe during healthcare visits.

#2. We focus on prevention and optimal health.

Our mission at Young Medicine is to facilitate true healing from the inside out and prevent future disease (yes, it’s possible!).

This requires methods, therapies, and practices to be covered during appointments that insurance companies just don’t offer.

#3. You feel confident knowing treatment plans are based on YOUR family’s best interest.

The truth is, when a conventional doctor prescribes you medication, you can never really be sure whose top of mind – you & your family, or the insurance companies.

When you invest your dollars into private naturopathic healthcare with our team, you can sleep easy knowing that every decision was made in the interest of your family’s well-being. Nobody else benefits but YOU. Which is exactly how it should be.

What if Naturopathic Care Isn’t in Your Family’s Budget Right Now?

That’s why we offer more affordable ways for you to work with Young Medicine and learn how to support your child’s health at home! I promise, this is where prevention starts and healing is possible.
